Howard Duncan

Dr. Howard Duncan is a specialist in international migration and the effects of migration on migrants and their families, their cities of destination, and their societies of origin. He served as the Executive Head of the International Metropolis Project from 2002 – 2018 and remains Chair Emeritus on the Metropolis International Steering Committee. Duncan spent 25 years in the Canadian federal government in various research and research management capacities, 17 of them with the immigration department and 8 with the health department. Formerly a university professor of philosophy, he is now Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa and teaches courses on international migration with Carleton’s program in Migration and Diaspora Studies. From 2015 – 2019, Duncan was Editor-in-Chief of the journal, International Migration. He has published and lectured extensively on migration and immigrant integration and enjoys mentoring young scholars. He is also a keen but very much an amateur jazz pianist.
