Holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urbanism, a Master’s degree in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning from the Université de Montréal, Benjamin Herazo is a research advisor and scientific coordinator at the Faculty of Environmental Design of the Université de Montréal. His work focuses on the relationships between strategic management, project management, sustainability, and innovation in the construction and built environment sectors. His doctoral research examined how sustainability contributes to the alignment between strategic and tactical management practices in construction projects. For more than 30 years, he has developed and coordinated interdisciplinary research projects bringing together academic institutions, public agencies, community organizations, and international partners. His recent research explores citizen-led initiatives in informal settlements, alternative food systems, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, urban vulnerability, and innovation processes in wood construction in Quebec. At the Université de Montréal, he contributes to several collaborative research initiatives and networks, including the IF Research Group (GRIF), the Œuvre durable Observatory, and the INTERFACES laboratories on innovation in wood construction. He is also involved in scientific coordination, research development, partnership building, and the production of research reports and publications in French, English, and Spanish. Before moving to Canada, he held several academic leadership positions for more than fifteen years at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, where he served as professor, researcher, director, and dean of the Faculty of Environmental and Rural Studies. He also worked as a consultant in environmental management, planning, and project management.
